A humbling story and staying in the race

I ran a triathlon some years ago and had one of the more humbling experiences of my life right in the middle of it. Probably not what you think since I didn't crash or break any bones. However, I did get an interesting glimpse into one of the most powerful things we endure as humans.

To get you up to speed, an Olympic-distance triathlon is a 1-mile swim, a 25-mile bike ride, and a 10-k run (6 miles). I honestly don't remember how long it took me to complete the race, but I do remember how much time and effort I put into training for it.

She was 59, and I was about 24 at the time.

I couldn't have sped up if I even wanted to. She wasn't even breathing hard. It blew my mind and I was profoundly humbled that this big event that took months of planning and endless workouts, well, it was just another day for her.

I realized that she had a consistent set of actions that set her apart. She exercised great care and skill consistently over time and when it was time for the main event, she was ready.
